At ten years old, Andrea was walking home alone from school in Memphis when a woman drove by and stuck her head out of the window yelling, "Girl, your hair's on fire!" After touching her head to make sure that her hair was, in fact, not on fire, Andrea was filled with the all-too-familiar feeling of being different. She was Jewish at an all-girls Episcopalian school, a Yankee whose New York-born and bred parents moved the family from the east coast to Tennessee when she was four years old, and, to make matters worse, rather than long blonde tresses, she had unfashionable bright red hair and freckles to spare.
Thankfully, she had already discovered a creative outlet in the Memphis theatre community, and with it her first sense of belonging. She eventually went on to study theatre at Northwestern University, and sketch comedy and improv at Second City, where she started creating comedic characters and dreaming of writing a one-woman show. After moving to LA, an acting teacher encouraged her to use her life as material, and thus the shows, "Girl, Your Hair's on Fire!" and "Girl, Your Hair's on Fire! Season 2" were born.
Update: Andrea is currently working on Season 3, having accumulated quite a bit of material during several stints as an executive/personal assistant to the high-maintenance set, marriage to a TV film critic and devoted Trekky, and ultimately, life post-divorce in the utterly confounding and comical world of dating apps.
